"wi-fi Exeter"
Blog at //wifiExeter.blogspot.com

In 2003 Exeter was declared by Intel to be a centre for wi-fi hotspots. See link for story. This site started to link wi-fi and media during Animated Exeter in 2004-6.The actual use of these hotspots could be higher still with more understanding and knowledge.

There are many sites in Exeter where wi-fi is possible. Animation is one form of media that demonstrates the potential. There is now a cybercafe again in Exeter at Life Bytes on Sidwell Street but actual wi-fi use is quite limited.

Intel counted all the IT boxes in pubs although they are not often used. Also the BT phone boxes.

Recently there is some wifi at the Phoenix Arts Centre and also at the Central Library. The Southgate Hotel has dropped the idea of free access but the library may be free till August and the signal strong enough to work in Rougemont Gardens. This has still to be tested.

Check the Psand news pages for broadcasts from Radio Vague

There were tests during the Science Festival.

Meanwhile, for content check the digital fringe at Animex

Wi-fi is now available at the Phoenix, between the bar and the Media Centre. See blog for update on improved inside access as it gets colder. Map shows where wi-fi seems to be strongest. For details on plans for the castle, enquire at Life Bytes internet resource centre opposite the Odeon on Sidwell Street
Somewhere near here in the gardens behind the library it may be possible to pick up a wifi connection
The BT phone box has now gone from South Street, but something may return. Old photos on page for previously

------------

Freespot might work well with Printme, a service from EFI that distributes print over the web. Here is a link to some spots in London. So far there has not been much Printme activity in the UK but wider broadband could help this.

Freespot was in Exeter
at Southgate Hotel

Nearest site now Dawlish

These pictures are part of a PDF guide to find the Southgate Hotel from the Cathedral Green. Click for larger size or PDF (1.9 meg) assuming broadband.
