| Testing out the Wikipedia
Acrobat 7 makes it possible to enable a PDF for comments in Reader. This seems not to be widely known, or not much used anyway. The cost of Acrobat has so far been one factor reducing the chances that the 'collaboration' features will be widely accepted. Meanwhile the Wikipedia seems to be working well. It is based on web pages and open source software. So cost is not a limitation in starting to use it. There may be feedback on the comments enabled version of the current AUF webpage. But the Wikipedia is another option. Last week I was at HESFES where Psand and Bristol Wireless encouraged us to start a HESFES page on the Wikipedia as a learning exercise. It is not misleading so it may stay there. So far I have had a look at topics the AUF may discuss- added on JDF "Acrobat 7 includes a menu item to create a JDF file linked to a PDF. This starts with the 'intention' for the job. More JDF detail is added later." Suggest adding something on 'Adobe Systems' Add something on 'intelligent documents, server software' ? Adobe have not entirely forgotten about pre-press. A software development kit for JDF is available supported by Objective Advantage http://www.oai.cc/Default.aspx?tabid=1&mid=393&ctl=Detail&tc=1&xmid=13 There is still a product Jobready that was once based on the Portable Job Ticket. This is supported by Datalogics. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. 'Intelligent Documents' is a general term to describe web documents with more functionality than a page designed to emulate paper. Formats include PDF from Adobe, InfoPath from Microsoft and XForms from W3C. Each is based on using XML as a format for data. 'Intelligent Documents' include forms that change on request, and peronalised presentations. They usually require web access and server software. This page will be revised later this week.
